SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL
1581-1660
St. Vincent de Paul was born in France to peasant farmers who sent him to seminary when he was 15 years old. Assigned various roles as a priest (parish priest, tutor, chaplain, spiritual director, superior), his concern for and ministry to the poor, enslaved, and imprisoned became a primary focus. Many charitable organizations have taken him as their patron saint.
Did you know?
It is said that St. Vincent had an irascible personality and at first desired a life of ease as a young priest. But upon hearing the confession of a dying peasant (1617), he experienced a conversion of the heart.
