Solemnity of the

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

The Immaculate Conception is often mistakenly understood as the event of Mary conceiving of the Holy Spirit  and becoming the Mother of God.

However, the Immaculate Conception is the doctrine that states that although Mary was conceived in the ordinary human way, she was created by God free from the stain of Original Sin.

Did you know?

In 1854, Pope Pius IX declared that the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception as infallible. You can read his Papal Encyclical here.

Four years later, in 1858, the Blessed Virgin appeared to St. Bernadette in Lourdes, France and declared herself:

"I am the Immaculate Conception."

A family tradition....

Place a statue of Mary in a prominent place in your home.

St. Maximilian Kolbe wrote a Novena (9 days of prayer) for the Immaculate Conception, which would start on November 30 and end on the Solemnity.
