SAINT THOMAS APOSTLE

d. 53, India

St. Thomas was likely a master builder from Galilee before he was called by Jesus to be His disciple. His missionary work, after the Ascension, led him to India where he was killed by a thrown spear. It is assumed he was martyred. He is considered the founder of the Malabar Christians, who to this day call themselves "St. Thomas Christians." His remains are said to be in Ortana, Italy.

Did you know?

St. Thomas is called "the twin," but the Bible does not mention any actual twin. His name both in Aramaic (Te'oma) and Greek (Didymos) both mean "twin."
*
After seeing and touching Jesus's wounds (John 20:27), St. Thomas was the first to publicly acknowledge His divinity: "My Lord and my God."

A family tradition...

What is the Syro-Malabar Church? It is a Church of the Chaldean Rite. Confused? This is a great article that explains "The Other 23 Catholic Churches."
