SAINTS PHILIP & JAMES, APOSTLES

The St. James of this feast day is James "the lesser," a term used to distinguish him from St. James, son of Zebedee (and both Apostles). St. Philip the Apostle, historically, has been confused with St. Philip the Deacon (Acts 6). Their bodies were brought together (from the East) to Rome in the 6th Century, which is why we celebrate their feast day as one.

Did you know?

St. James and St. Philip were martyred, as were all of the rest of the Apostles besides St. John. St. James was likely a bishop in Jerusalem. St. Philip spoke Greek most likely, and he was martyred there.
