OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL

est. 13th century

Saint Simon Stock (1165-1265), a Carmelite monk, is said to have seen a vision of the Blessed Virgin. She gave him what we know today as the Brown Scapular. It is believed that she promised protection to Carmelite religious who wore it. Devotion to the Scapular was attested (as a "doctrinal statement") by the Church in 1996.

Did you know?

Simon Stock was never canonized! He was born in England and, for a time, lived in a hollow tree (a "stock").

A family tradition...

If you have children, ask them if and when they feel particularly close to Jesus: at Mass, during adoration, during quiet prayer, or group prayer, or when they read the Bible? Help your family members discover devotions and spiritual practices that help them encounter Jesus! Every soul is different.
