SAINT JOAN OF ARC

France, 1412-1431

St. Joan of Arc was from an obscure poor family. From about 13 years old, she began to hear the voices of saints Michael the Archangel, Catherine of Alexandria, and Margaret. They prepared her over the course of the next four years to help France fight the English during a period of the One Hundred Years War. She only carried her banner and gave divinely-inspired advice to turn the tide against the English. She was captured by the Burgundians, sold to the English, and was imprisoned, then burned. The English burned her body three times and then scattered her ashes in the Seine (so that no relics could be saved).
