FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY

Today we commemorate the Magi's visit to Jesus in Bethlehem. They were men from the East who had read the prophecies of the coming of the Messiah. They noticed the Bethlehem Star in the sky and followed it. They brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Gold, because Jesus is King. Frankincense, because Jesus is God. Myrrh, because Jesus would die for our sins.

Did you know?

The Magi are often depicted as a trio because there were three gifts presented to Mary and Jesus, but it's more likely that the Magi would have come as a large entourage, large enough for Herod to have noticed their entrance into Judea. They came from the East and are traditionally named Gaspar, Balthazar, and Melchior.

A family tradition...

Put the Magi statues beside your nativity scene.

Have the father or mother (husband or wife) of your home give your house an Epiphany House blessing. Here are the instructions. It's a wonderful way to "welcome" Jesus as a permanent guest of your family.
