CHAIR OF SAINT PETER

This feast day acknowledges the authority Jesus gave to his apostle Peter to be the head of His Church on earth. Following Peter's death, the "Chair of Peter" has been filled by a succession of popes through the centuries. This Apostolic Succession underscores the unity of the Church.
