Catherine was the 23rd of 25 children of wool dyers. As a very young child, she saw Jesus in a vision and dedicated her life to Him. As a young woman, she joined the Dominican lay order (third degree) and lived at the service of the sick and ill of her city. Many miracles were attributed to her when she was still alive. She experienced a mystical union with Jesus and had many visions. She had a great influence on the Church during her short life. She was 33 years old when she died following a stroke.

St. Catherine is one of only four women Doctors of the Church. She was given the Stigmata, although it was invisible. 

A family tradition...

St. Catherine was alive during a terrible time in Europe: The bubonic plague killed a third of the continent's population in three years. She administered to the sick. Find a way to reach out to someone who is suffering from illness.
